Pony for Christmas

Motivational Speaker: Santa Claus

Santa Claus is a motivational speaker.

Motivational speakers offer you hope. Santa offers you hope.  Poor Santa, he makes too many promises that he can’t keep.

He offers hope. You ask for a pony – he tells you that all you need to do is be good. You want a Wii, cabbage patch doll, cell phone, Ipod…

You just need to be good. Santa is a motivational speaker. He tells you that you can have what you want. All you need to do is be good.

Like many motivational speakers, Santa promises more than he should. That doesn’t mean that Santa is bad. He means well. But like too many motivational speakers he promises you happiness without effort. The reality is that you can have whatever you want – if you are willing to do what you need to do.

Santa Claus is a motivational speaker. He visits once a year, makes promises than disappears for a year. If he motivates you to do better or be better then that is ok.

Santa Claus is a motivational speaker.

Motivational Moment

Motivational Moment

If you want to feel more motivated – be in the moment.

If you want to motivate others – help them to be in the moment.

Motivation is only possible if we believe that now is important. If it can wait – we will not be motivated. If we need to think about it – we will not be motivated.

If you are feeling depressed or unmotivated – then do the thing that you do that puts you in the moment. Because being in the moment forces you to face your fears and draw upon your strengths.

What do you do that places you in the moment? Perhaps you need to do it more.

I love to downhill ski. When I am skiing downhill there is no time to think about anything other than the next 20 feet of terrain. I am totally in the moment and I enjoy it. It is exhilarating and demanding. At the end of the day I am both physically exhausted and mentally refreshed.

In downhill skiing the immediate demand on the coordination of my mental focus and physical response is incredibly motivating. What is it that you love to do that demands the same mental and physical coordination from you?

If you want to feel more motivated – be in the moment. Do the thing that place you in the moment.

Motivation: It Moves You

Motivation: It moves you

Motivation, motion and move all have the same route. At the simplest level they are all about moving you. That could be your emotional state, your physical state or your social-economic state.

You need motivation to move in any direction. The lack of movement is a sure symptom of a lack of motivation.

When you find yourself unable to move look for a new direction to move in – even if it means move one or a few steps back. The act of moving will help to trigger the feeling of motivation within you. Sometimes you need to backup before you can charge ahead.

Avoid growing roots of inaction. Keep moving. It will help you feel motivated.
