Sir Edmund Hillary died this month.
He was the first person to stand at the top of Mount Everest.
His well known response to the question “why?” was “Because it was there.”
Hillary climbed Everest in May 1953. Everyone that climbed after him knew that it could be done. Hillary proved that it could be done. What motivation drove him to prove the impossible?
Since that time there have been almost 3,000 climbers to reach the summit of the highest mountain on the earth – including the son of Sir Edmund. There have been more than 200 deaths on the mountain.
Sir Edmund is a symbol of motivational excellence. True motivation is believing you can achieve that which has not been done before. Repeating an achievement has got to be easy.
